Our annual Soap Box Derby competition at our Home Office and Distribution Center is a time-honored tradition. All of our departments get together each year and create a highly creative, personalized soapbox car to enter in the race, in hopes of taking home 1st prize and bragging rights.
To make sure everyone was “fueled-up” before the big race, we invited several local food trucks to serve our employees lunch, including Ruthie’s Rolling Creperie, Pompeii, Gypsy Scoops, and Easy Slider. Employees enjoyed their lunch on the patio while listening to the musical talents of a band made up entirely of our talented Distribution Center employees! They really rocked out and got everyone pumped up for the race later that afternoon. Before lunch was over, our employees were also excited to take photos with the Interstate Batteries race car, which our fabulous vendor brought in just for us.
Employees were excited to see the many great themes for the soapbox cars this year – from Wonder Woman, to Moose on the Loose and POP (meaning Perfectly Organized Perks) – a nod to our new customer engagement program!). There were 47 teams and no two soap box cars looked alike. Some teams strategized by having a weighted soap box, one team’s car was actually a dumbbell on wheels and others went for small and swift. In the end, the Chupa Cabra team from Distribution Center Maintenance won first place and got the honor of kissing the track!
It was most certainly a day to remember! Check out more pictures from our Distribution Center Soap Box Derby in our photo gallery [link to photo gallery created for 2014 Soapbox Derby]. Until next year everyone!
