My younger brother passed away January 2nd of 2011. He was an organ and tissue donor and worked as an EMT for 3 years. He loved working in a public service-type job and was always the first on the scene to help someone out. Our family, unfortunately, was not aware of the extra step one must take to become an official donor, until after his passing. In order to raise awareness and money for “Donate Life”, last year my family and I took part in the organization’s 5k in my brother’s honor.

Donate Life raises awareness for organ and tissue donors and supports the families of lost loved ones by providing encouraging support and counseling services. My family and I just walked our second 5k on April 28th, which actually would have been my brother’s 24th birthday.

I’m so immensely grateful that The Container Store cares to know about the organizations that I as an employee support and share my story on our company’s blog for others to learn about as well.  Through this opportunity I am able to continue raising awareness and sharing information on a topic that holds a very special place in my heart while continuing to honor my brother. Organ and tissue donation is such a selfless and priceless act of humanity and can save the lives of those you love and cherish. I love being a part of something that has such a wonderful and positive impact on my community and invite everyone to learn more about organ and tissue donation through this incredible nonprofit.
