A couple of years ago, I was contacted by a lovely woman named Nancy Levicki, Executive Director and President of Dress for Success Houston.  She had attended the National Dress for Success conference in New York and met The Container Store employees at the luncheon.  Nancy knew that Dress for Success and The Container Store could connect just as well in Houston as they had in New York.  I learned from Nancy that Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.  What a great match for The Container Store!

Fast forward to 2012, Dress for Success has built a brand new, state–of-the-art facility in Houston that will offer a central location with convenient access to public transportation for their clients, volunteers, meetings and other activities.  This location is a popular cause for our customers, has been built through donations and underwriting from many key businesses in the Houston area and is close to The Container Store.  We knew that elfa Shelving was a perfect match for the “store” where their clients are able to choose their professional attire.  We donated a beautiful elfa space that will fit their needs and our Installation Service and Houston-area employees installed the elfa for them!  The Dress for Success staff also got involved by jumping in and learning how to work with elfa.  In short, we had a ball!

We are so fortunate to have built and maintained this mutually-beneficial relationship for so many involved – The Container Store, our employees, Dress for Success and myself, personally.  I have since accepted a role on the Dress for Success Advisory Board and have attended networking meetings with the underwriters of Dress for Success and the Houston Women’s Club.  I cannot wait to see what how our relationship grows in the future.
