Free Arts NYC provides under-served children and families with a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential.
We’re always looking ahead – we decide on art projects for our Weekly Mentor Program almost a year in advance, train volunteer mentors months ahead, and organize art materials for each project weeks before the participants arrive at our programs. All preparation happens in our office’s art room, which transforms into a loading zone as we pack up hundreds of art materials to send out to our program’s sites. It requires a lot of organizing, and our partnership with The Container Store has been invaluable over the past several years.
Free Arts NYC is expanding our programs so we can reach more kids across New York City. In 2011, The Container Store donated large plastic bins to Free Arts. These bins have carried art materials and other supplies to thousands of kids and families. In 2012, The Container Store generously donated six Inter-Metro shelving units to hold all of these bins in our office. This allows Free Arts’ staff, work more efficiently as we prepare for programs, since we have access to every single bin of art materials. Our staff and delivery guys are happy too – no one has to move a whole stack of bins to get to the one they need!
This donation also helps us expand to serve more kids. We’re launching a Teen Arts Program, for teenagers who aged out of our programs; and an early childhood education curriculum for our PACT Family program. The donation of the Inter-Metro shelving units helps Free Arts stay organized, but what it really does is help us give more kids, teens, and families around New York City the educational arts and mentoring programs that help them foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential.
Thank you, The Container Store!
