Our Sixth Annual Soapbox Derby was off the track! To get into race day spirit, employees were treated to a visit by the FedEx sponsored NASCAR race car. Employees could take their pictures with the car and also purchase NASCAR inspired race gear. Employees enjoyed lunch from The Butcher’s Son gourmet food trucks. Before the race engines were started, we sang the National Anthem and a model airplane did a flyover. More than 30 teams from our Home Office and Distribution Center assembled and entered cars into the competition with themes ranging from “Fill the Other Guy’s Basket” – a tribute to one of our Foundation Principles – to “Hail’s Angels” in reference to the team who helped auto triage employees’ cars after the recent tornados in North Texas. Eleven of our incredible vendor partners turned out to serve as the official race day judges and also donated more than 20 prizes that were raffled off throughout the event. The Crew Chief from our winning team kissed the track, one of our long standing race traditions, to celebrate his three-year win. There’s no doubt the plotting and planning for car improvements have already begun…until next year!
