Just shortly after I returned to Houston from Dallas for The Container Store’s Service Awards, my husband and I jumped on a plane to New York to celebrate my 20+ years with the company. Every 20-year employee receives two plane tickets to anywhere in the US, $1000 spending money and an extra week of vacation to enjoy the trip! We chose New York because we just love the theater and knew there would be countless other things do there.

One of the shows we saw was Million Dollar Quartet about Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. The show was about the one and only time all four of them were together in a recording studio and where they were in their careers. Well, I grew up with Elvis and have always loved his music. At the end of the show each one of the entertainers sang one of the hits and dressed in the sequined jackets. When Elvis sang he made eye contact with me and walked toward me singing Love Me Tender. When he got in front of me he bent over and took his white scarf off, which he always had on during his concerts, and gave it to me!!  We also ate our way around the city. I regularly watch the Food Network and researched some of their favorite places to eat. What can I say, we ate the best cookies, best crème Brule, cheesecake and bar nuts. Each day we went in a different direction from our hotel, even in the rain.

I am not sure I can explain how thankful I am that I found The Container Store more than 20 years ago. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate enough to travel the country to our stores, meet the best employees ever and make lifetime friends. To have the leaders of the company know me personally and know what I do for the company makes me feel like what I do truly matters. To have them recognize my anniversary each year and my birthday with cards is incredibly special. In my first career, I was a property manager then an assistant office manager and the owners of these companies really didn’t know I existed or that I even felt that way. It’s not only how TCS makes me feel but my husband has been a big part of the reason I can do what I do. He feels like he is as much a part of the company as I am and I was thrilled to share this gift of travel from The Container Store with him.
