We couldn’t be prouder of this profile on our incredibly talented, creative and sweet Chief Merchandising Officer, Sharon Tindell. The Container Store’s one-of-a-kind product collection has been built from her commitment, focus, creativity and vision for wanting to offer our customers functional, well-designed solutions to save them space and time. It’s a collection of products she wants our customers to be surprised and delighted by each time they visit, not to mention be fun for our employees to sell. And as Sharon would say, they are products that transcend their value — they truly change people’s lives. We honestly believe, and our customers have told us, that yes, even a trashcan can make you smile.
Sharon’s keen vision has always been a part of The Container Store’s brand. In 1978, The Container Store opened the doors of its first location, which also launched a new category of retailing. As Sharon re-thought her career as a landscape architect, she helped out periodically with the company’s first in-store signage, pricing, and restocking of inventory. In 1979, she married Kip, our Chairman and CEO, and joined the company full-time in 1980. Sharon worked on the salesfloor, counted inventory for reordering and participated in other projects that put her in direct touch with the store’s innovative product mix and customers’ storage and organization challenges. It was clear she had a
knack for implementing the company’s philosophy of coming up with multi-functional uses for the store’s products. Couple that with her creativity and passion for the products, as well as her insight as one of the company’s first employees and it was logical that Sharon became the company’s first official buyer in 1981. As The Container Store’s product mix has grown to include 10,000 products, she still takes on the phenomenal, day-to-day task of overseeing and approving all buying decisions working closely with her incredible team. No product is introduced in the stores without her seal of approval.
So, we hope you enjoy the story as much as we do and next time you’re in one of our stores or shopping with us online, you might think of Sharon and feel her true passion for and commitment to offering you a solution that you fall in love with, that really, really helps you save space and time and gets you dancing each time you use it.
