This past September, terrible wildfires destroyed or damaged thousands of homes near Austin, Texas. More than 25,000 acres of land were consumed by the fires and a countless amount of people were forced out of their homes. The Saturday morning after the fires occurred, the Salvation Army of Georgetown contacted our Austin-area employees to let them know they were in need of shipping boxes. The Salvation Army collected hundreds of donations following the fires, but due to a lack of space, they were having trouble organizing and distributing the items to those in need. Not only did they need the boxes, but they needed them as soon as possible in order to quickly help the families who had just lost everything.
Our Austin store, Community Relations Department, Buying Department and Distribution Center worked together and were able to donate more than $1,000 of our Corrugated Shipping Boxes to the Salvation Army within four days of their request! Laura Derus, General Manager of our Austin store, commented, “It was so gratifying to be able to help the Salvation Army help our greater Austin community. It came as no surprise that with such short notice, our teams were able to communicate and collaborate to make this donation happen!”
