Creatively crafting mutually-beneficial relationships with our vendors is by far one of the most exciting and exhilarating aspects of running a retail company. Umbra is an example of one of those relationships and we’re thrilled to celebrate with them, their 30th Anniversary! For most of those 30 years, we’ve partnered with them to bring impeccable, affordable design to our customers. If you’re a fan of Umbra products, I know you’ll agree they’re iconic, fresh, witty and distinctive – and I can say the same about their people.
As part of their 30-year celebration, Umbra’s president, Les Mandelbaum, wrote a special note to our employees. It was placed inside each employee’s very own Umbra Mini Crunch Can.
To all of the fabulous employees at The Container Store–
Umbra, the home accessories company that brought style to everything from trash cans to picture frames, has turned 30.
Many people and companies celebrate birthdays every day, big and small. They are private or family affairs. We would like to share this one with the thousands who have supported us for all these years. Products come and go, people come and go, companies come and go. Not much lasts. We want to celebrate not only lasting 30 years, but working with a great team, supported by fantastic and loyal retailers, and customers who have been buying and using our products for many years.
For just about all of those years, we have worked with The Container Store, the unique organization store that is known for its focus on employee culture and customer service long before either became buzz words. It became apparent early that although our expertise may have differed, we agreed that a commitment to excellence and integrity comes first. Umbra is prolific at developing new functional products that look good, but with virtues that are not always obvious. We found that some of our best ideas didn’t make it in most retail environments. We did notice The Container Store often succeeded with these products. When we asked why, the Tindells would say, “We love selling the hard stuff.” The Container Store has the most educated and dedicated sales staff in the industry working in carefully merchandised stores. When our design team comes up with a brilliant but “tough” organizational product, we know that we better get it to The Container Store.
Umbra has tried to stick to its core value of original, forward-thinking design that provides function and value. We respect the intelligence of our customers and want to thank them for keeping us going this long. So we look back for a moment, but get back to work on the next generation of groundbreaking products to add a little excitement to our homes.
Umbra is proud to celebrate its 30th Anniversary with The Container Store.
