Hi, I’m Jennifer from Lucas Systems, I work with employees at The Container Store’s Distribution Center and I’m the voice behind their new voice picking system. It’s my job to tell employees where to go and what items to pick so that each of their stores gets the products they need, every time, on time.
Lucas Systems and The Container Store have gotten to know each other over the past five years, so when they were ready to put a little voice in their distribution center operations, we were excited to get started on the project together. What I love is that when developing the right system for The Container Store, they had a cross-functional team of employees weighing in and sharing their ideas to make the program the best it could be – after all, they were going to be the ones using me every day to do their jobs even better and more efficiently. Don’t you just love the shirts I got for my friends in The Container Store’s distribution center? All they have to do is look down for the commands they most often need to give me.
Over the years I’ve learned a lot about The Container Store’s operations, but also about their culture and Foundation Principles. I think we work well together because their values mirror our own and like our founder always says, if you do right by your customers, they will do right by you. Or, in the words of Andrew Carnegie and one of The Container Store’s Foundation Principles: “Fill the other guys’ basket to the brim. Making money then becomes an easy proposition.” We’ve also discovered in working with The Container Store that their “Air of Excitement” – another of their Foundation Principles – is contagious! Together, we work hard and I like to think I bring a little fun to our day. Sometimes I get so excited when an assignment is complete, I give the employee a “Yippee!!!”
