A couple of years ago, I joined the Visual Art League of Lewisville (VAL). The group is dedicated to supporting artists in all phases of their development, ranging from beginners, such as myself, to full-blown professional artists. They provide many workshop opportunities and conduct several shows throughout the year in which artists can display and hopefully sell their work. In addition, they work with local schools to conduct shows for k-12 age kids. The group is organized and run by volunteers with minimal financial support from the city.
When I first joined the league, they worked out of a small space that was tucked into an aging shopping center. Recently, the city of Lewisville with support from the Medical Center of Lewisville, built The Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater. The Visual Arts League now has a new home in this great new facility, which is dedicated to the arts. Unfortunately, the storage area was “shelving free.” The Container Store supported the league by providing elfa shelving for their storage room. As a member of this organization and an employee of The Container Store, it was very rewarding to help install the shelving and see the impact our product truly make! Now, all of their art supplies and instructional materials are neatly organized! On behalf of the Visual Arts League of Lewisville, I would like to thank The Container Store for their great organizational support.
