Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! It’s that time-honored holiday where we share our love and affection for those special folks in our lives. So, here at The Container Store, we thought we’d start our own tradition in the spirit of Valentine’s Day! We’ve declared today, February 14th as “National We Love our Employees Day!” While we appreciate all that our employees do every day, we wanted to officially recognize them today and thank them for all they do to make The Container Store a great place to work and to shop. Their diligence, positive attitude, perseverance and commitment this year has been truly remarkable. Their dedication to holding hands as a team, looking under every rock for opportunities to make our company stronger, and for sincerely giving our customer what she wants, needs and deserves has been incredible. Our beloved and special company wouldn’t be the same without our 4000 employees across the country and our elfa employees across the pond in Sweden all making a difference.
We assembled 4000 goody boxes FILLED with fabulous products DONATED from our vendors – one for each employee. I’m sure you’ll get to see pictures of these and the other fun employee treats on our Facebook page. We also had printing and media partners get on board with amazing support for our We Love Our Employee Day efforts. As you may have heard me say before, our vendors are a crucial component of our interdependent circle of stakeholders and we so value the mutually-beneficial relationships we’ve built with them over the years.
We’ve even had Dallas City Council member Ann Margolin present a proclamation from Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and State Representative Carol Kent offer a resolution recognizing today as “The Container Store’s National We Love Our Employees Day” in honor of our commitment to an employee-first culture.
We’re also encouraging other companies around the country to adopt this day as their own employee-recognition day. Creating and nurturing an employee-first culture is the most fun, productive and profitable way to run a business. There are some really great companies that are doing a great job at this. But think about if the thousands of the companies across the country would put their employees first, communicate to them, make them feel a true sense of ownership in the business. Can you imagine what the business world in America would look like? And talk about customer service. When you have happy employees, there’s no doubt you’ll have happy customers.
Happy Valentine’s Day and happy National We Love Our Employees Day!
