Two years ago, the “snow-pocalypse of 2009” shut down most airports in New England for the better part of the weekend. Not the best timing for anyone traveling for the holidays. Luckily, The Container Store and Southwest Airlines had partnered to spread some holiday cheer at Baltimore-Washington International Airport and were offering free gift wrapping for travelers with holiday gifts. We had so many wonderful folks stop by our table to enjoy the complimentary gift wrap and share their stories about The Container Store and Southwest.
One traveler in particular, Dan, heard “free gift wrap” and came running with a digital photo frame and some DVDs to be wrapped. After 15 minutes of banter about college football, families and our jobs, I knew he was different than anyone I’d ever met and something urged me to write my number on our Stocking Stuffer catalog. I never actually expected to hear from him.
But, a week later I got a message from Dan and the rest, as we say, is history. Countless hours on the phone and many Southwest Airlines plane tickets later, Dan conspired with my roommate, mom and boss to fly me out to Washington, D.C. and propose. He has since sold his house, changed jobs, taken the Texas Bar and relocated to Dallas, so I could stay with this spectacular company that brought us together on that snowy day.
So many of our wonderful customers, vendors and employees share the difference The Container Store makes in their lives each and every day. For me, The Container Store is molding my career and brought me the love of my life who I will marry in just a few short days. Who says a store can change your life? I can!
