You can’t do that! The bottom will fall out! That’s not legal! These are just some of the comments we get at Gulf Winds International when we talk about loading maximum capacity loads for our clients through our port facilities in Houston. When we went to The Container Store several years ago to introduce the idea of our heavy weight container program we were met with some resistance, as we do with most of our clients, but in The Container Store fashion they listened and the rest is history.
By taking advantage of the dramatic weight increase per container we were able to move an increasing elfa® product volume and reduce the total annual number of containers imported as the elfa product arrives from Sweden at The Port of Houston. Over the years we have established a great partnership to move the containers from The Port of Houston directly across the street to our Gulf Winds facility and then transload the heavy loaded containers into legal weight domestic truck loads to be transported to The Container Store Distribution Center in Coppell, TX. At the time we established this process, transportation rates and diesel fuel prices had significantly increased and a looming recession was about to hit our economy.
Had it not been for our partnership and The Container Store’s open mind for a different approach to reduce costs, we are confident the program would have never left the ground. It did and here we are today reducing costs with a growing and very important product line for The Container Store. As they continue to grow and prosper in these tough economic times, we are proud to be a part of The Container Store team and to join the ride as they continue their winning ways now and into the future.
