For almost every ballet school and company, the holidays were a magical time. It is the time for the magic of The Nutcracker. It’s a time when we see the faces of children light up with anticipation of the Sugar Plum Fairy coming on stage. We watch as little bodies restlessly twitch in theater seats, yearning to be leaping and turning with the snowflakes and flowers. And we smile and think wistfully of everything that is good and beautiful in ballet.
At the Colorado Conservatory of Dance (CCD), though, the magic isn’t simply relegated to the holiday season –we create moments like these all year long. CCD is a place for everyone. We believe no person should be limited in his or her ability to receive exceptional dance education. It is our goal to provide a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters a love of the art of dance for our community. It is our hope that this love becomes a passion that is experienced throughout our dancers’ lives.
We seek every new opportunity to bring beautiful performances and stellar dance training to everyone. Whether it is through our Title 1 Elementary School Partnerships for underserved youth, our adaptive dance program for children with disabilities, or our scholarship programs, we excel when we inspire our community to care about the importance of art and dance.
The Container Store has been integral in our ability to inspire. As the grand opening nonprofit partner of The Container Store at Flatiron Crossing Mall, we have seen firsthand the impact two caring organizations partnering together can have. Also, the support throughout the last six years from The Container Store has allowed Colorado Conservatory of Dance to further its mission by utilizing the gift of organization. Without their generous product donations for our offices and back storage spaces, CCD would be using valuable time trying to find items and information, instead of inspiring the artists of our community.
It is Colorado Conservatory of Dance’s deep commitment to the betterment of our community, through the arts, that drives us. We know how transformative dance can be, and we create opportunities for powerful change in people’s lives. CCD teaches discipline, commitment, and inspires passion. Barb Anderson from The Container Store once said (and I paraphrase), “You should wake up every day and ask yourself, ‘How can I be better than I was the day before?’” At Colorado Conservatory of Dance, we not only ask ourselves that important question, but we also ask, “How can I inspire everyone I meet today to be better than they were the day before?”
