Leaders We Love: A New Blog Series!

At The Container Store, we’re all about celebrating and being inspired by great leaders. So, we recently polled dozens of leaders throughout our company to find out who has inspired them – both personally and professionally. We got so many great (and diverse!) responses that we decided to share them all as a special series on our blog called “Leaders We Love.” We’ll post them occasionally, so be on the lookout. We hope you enjoy the first one, written by our Vice President of Logistics & Distribution,
Amy C. – a 26-year employee!

Leaders We Love: Walt Disney

You might not expect our very first featured leader to be an animator and founder of an entertainment conglomerate, but I love Walt Disney because he was such an incredible visionary. From humble beginnings as the head of a cartoon studio in the 1920s, Walt Disney went on to become one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design.

Throughout his entire career, Walt Disney had a vision, and never settled for anything less. That insistence on excellence is what made him and his company simply amazing. At The Container Store, I strive to create a similar environment – one in which employees can thrive, be creative, and are rewarded for bringing new ideas to the table. This includes the physical environment, like our clean and bright offices and distribution center and organized workspaces – as well as a cultural environment that allows employees to feel secure, valued and supported by their managers. Disney World may be the “happiest place on earth,” but The Container Store has the “happiest distribution center on earth!”

It’s easy to get bogged down in the stress of the day-to-day or wrapped up in the issues that face business leaders, but Walt Disney inspires me to keep reaching for the stars, and to never settle for just “good.”
