*This is part of our “Leaders We Love” series. Learn more about it.
Who doesn’t LOVE food? Well I know I do, and I often think of eating exceptional food as my hobby! What some chefs can do with simple ingredients is remarkable to me. Thomas Keller is an artist with exceptionally high personal standards who also understands the importance of assembling an expert team that shares his vision.
When you taste Chef Keller’s food you can tell he finds great joy in “striving for perfection.” If you’ve tasted his fried chicken, French macaroons or “Oysters and Pearls” (which is sabayon of Pearl Tapioca with Island Creek Oysters and White Sturgeon Caviar), you understand the joy of tasting perfection.
As we all know, Chef Keller cannot be at every one of his restaurants every single night. He has assembled an amazing team that reaches for the same perfection and, happily, is able to achieve that standard. The Container Store has customers that shop in Boston, Chicago and Portland. While I similarly cannot be at all of the stores in my region at all times, our talented teams across the country share the vision of our employee-first culture and find joy in improving customers’ lives through the gracious gift of organization.
When leaders strive for perfection and inspire others to do the same it tastes very good – or makes for an exceptional shopping experience, depending upon your business. If you’re interested in learning more about Thomas Keller and his restaurants, you can visit the website for his restaurant The French Laundry, or check out the books he’s written – my favorite is The Complete Thomas Keller: The French Laundry Cookbook & Bouchon.
