*This is part of our “Leaders We Love” series. Learn more about it.
For as long as I can remember I’ve been inspired by pioneers. Max De Pree was the CEO of Herman Miller, Inc. from 1980 to 1987. He accepted this position of leadership from his father who founded the company in 1927. Herman Miller is a successful, global furniture company due vastly to Max’s vision and commitment to treat all workers as individuals with unique abilities and potential. He was a pioneer in creating an organizational culture that was led by a “beliefs shape practice” execution within the business. This relational approach to leadership is synonymous to how we lead at The Container Store.
Max De Pree’s conviction to follow through on his obligation to deliver his best is what I aspire to each and every day as a 1=3 employee. The opportunity I have to influence others to produce their best, and to flourish in their careers by leaving a positive “wake” is a gift. As a business leader it makes sense to use drivers that utilize the heart as much as the head to produce optimal results.
Max De Pree’s commitment to craft the best furniture solutions for the home and workspace still leads Herman Miller’s innovation to this day. At The Container Store we improve the quality of our customer’s lives with storage and organization solutions by applying our Foundation Principles, which not only differentiates us from any other retailer but just feels great!
