In the fall of 2011 Ruben C., a long time employee of our San Antonio store, found out his oldest child Meg was diagnosed with a Ewing Sarcoma – a type of cancer that forms in bone or soft tissue. She spent many weeks receiving chemotherapy at the Children’s Cancer and Blood Center at Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio as part of her treatment.
The Cancer and Blood Center is an outpatient clinic located just next door to the hospital. It provides kids with cancer treatment, as well as treatment for blood and immunological disorders. Inside the center there are private and public rooms for care, as well as a playroom with toys and games. Children can also participate in art therapy groups while they wait, or during an infusion.
Throughout her treatment at the center in San Antonio, Meg loved painting and playing games with her siblings in the playroom. It was the perfect way to keep her spirits high and the good news is that as of February 6, Meg is CANCER FREE and on her way to be a normal, happy 10-year-old.
After spending so much time at the Children’s Cancer and Blood Center, Ruben and his wife Brandi just knew the playroom needed The Container Store’s help. So with the help of several employees from our San Antonio store, we donated and installed brand new elfa shelving to transform the playroom into a clean, roomy and much more functional space!
Check out these before and after pictures! Wow! We were so happy to be able to help the Children’s Cancer and Blood Center after they took such wonderful care of Meg and her family.
